Procedure of sample preparation for wood characterization. Wedges (A) and radial strips were cut from discs; small wood samples (B) and tangential sections (C) were cut for density and microfibril angle measurements. Near-infrared (NIR) spectra 1, 3 and 4 were recorded from the early juvenile wood, late juvenile wood and early mature wood. The wedges were ground for wet-chemistry analysis and NIR spectra were measured from the powders (NIR spectra 2)
